Dominique Rijpma Van Hulst (born 7 September 1981 in Valkenswaard near Eindhoven, Netherlands) is a singer known by her stage name Do. She is best known for her world-wide top 10 hit in 2002 - 2003, "Heaven", a remake and remix of the '80s hit by Bryan Adams ft. DJ Sammy and Yanou, and her albums Do and Follow Me.

Early life

Do was born Dominique Rijpsma van Hulst in 1981 in Valkenswaard, a town in the south of the Netherlands. Although she had been singing throughout most of her early years, Do never considered a music career. She was a gifted tennis player and at the age of 15 she started preparations to compete in the Wimbledon tennis tournament, but was forced to end her tennis career early because of an injury.

Her first musical performance in café Old Dutch in Valkenswaard led to a record label deal with Sony Music BMG.

Music career
Before she even released a single she was a supporting act for the tour of 5ive and Montell Jordan in Holland.
The first single Do released was the song Real Good. Although the music video was played a lot on the Dutch music channel TMF,it became a flop in Holland. Later in interview she says that ''"It wasn't my sound, and I hated the video. Thankfully it wasn't a hit, 'cause I don't want people to remember me from that song"''.
After that Do released a second song but in association with DJ Sammy and Yanou, who is also her producer. The song was a cover of Bryan Adams song Heaven. It became an international hit. It reached the number 1 spot in several countries, like: the United Kingdom, and Australia. Because of the song's popularity and people wanting a ballad-like slow dance, a candlelight remix version was made specifically for the pure ballad-like mood. Another remix of the song was made to commemorate the September 11 terrorist attacks. It is believed to be an unauthorized remix by Kiss FM. The song features a little girl talking about her father who presumably died in the attacks, with the original chorus intermittently playing. During this time, she had some problems with the credits of the song. Everywhere she went, she was asked if she was DJ Sammy because she was not given credit on playlists. However, that was fixed on many CDs to read that Do did the vocals and that DJ Sammy and Yanou did the music.

''Do''

Do's self titled debut, Do, was released in 2004, and reached the #3 spot in the Netherlands. The first single from the album, "Voorbij", a duet with Marco Borsato, reached number 1.
She also had top 10 hits in the Netherlands with her next two singles, "Love Is Killing Me" (which reached the #6 spot) and "Angel By My Side" (which reached the #10 spot). A specially recorded version of "Angel By My Side" was used as the title song for the award winning 2004 film "Ellis in Glamourland", starring Joan Collins.

The fourth single was planned to be ''"I Don't Want Be Your Friend"''. But Do's management didn't get the rights to release it as a single, because it was originally recorded by Cyndi Lauper.

The album received the golden status (40,000 copies) in Holland just before Christmas and has now sold over 40,000 copies in the Netherlands. Although Do's former international success with ''"Heaven"'' her album wasn't released in other countries except Holland, the reasons are unknown. To end the year she recorded a Christmas song with Trijntje Oosterhuis on the order of Sky Radio. It was called "Everyday Is Christmas". Due the big airplay it reached the #7 spot in the Dutch Top 40.

After the Tsunami disaster in Indonesia, Do joined several Dutch artist to record a song for the victims of the Tsunami. The song ''"Als Je Iets Kunt Doen"'' (If You Can Do Something) reached the #1 spot in Holland, and stayed there for several weeks. All the profits of the song went to the victims of the Tsunami.

She has also made a few film appearances, including doing the voice of "Cappy" in the Dutch-spoken version of the multi-million dollar film, ''Robots''. Other accomplishments include that she is the only female artist to have two different versions of the same song, "Heaven", on Billboard charts at the same time, peaking at number 8.

''Follow Me''
Do's second album, "Follow Me" was released in the Netherlands on June 19 2006. The first single was also called 'Follow Me'. The song was written by Bryan Adams and had already been recorded by Melanie C in 1999. The single peaked at #39 in the Dutch Top 40 but did better in the Megacharts Top 50, peaking at #17. The album debuted in the Dutch Megacharts Album Top 100 on #8 and peaked there for two weeks. The album contains 12 songs. The album meant a lot to Do, who's friend worked on the album with her before passing away.

The second single of Follow Me was 'Beautiful Thing'. This song did better in the charts than Follow and it peaked at #23. It stayed in the Top 40 for 9 weeks. The video for Beautiful Thing was shot in Bonaire just like the third single of the album Sending Me Roses which was only released as a digital track. The two videos form a story.

In 2006 Do did a tour called ''Follow Me'' theatertour. Almost all shows were sold out.

The fourth single from the album was "I Will". It was released in February 2007. The song was re-recorded in Sweden. However, no video was made and the song failed to chart.
